Why Florida?
Goko could only have one home and that was warm-year-round Florida. We considered many places, southern California, coastal Washington, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and even The Lake District in England. But Florida reeled us like a prized catch a fisherman waited a lifetime for. The endless summer mindset, the trendy cities, the long beaches and the laid back way of life proved to be just right for our paddle business baby.
Now where in Florida? We sat in our shared, 17th floor flat in Manchester, England's city centre weighing different communities. Finally settling on Tampa Bay, we took a leap of faith since both of us had only briefly visited years ago. We were happy to find diverse culture, open-minded people, white sand beaches and gritty nature preserves. Not to mention the vast bio-diversity of the the bay itself. We knew we'd see terrific wildlife, yet were still awed by the shore birds, the manatee, the dolphin, the palms and all the shellfish! "Unbelievable," as my grandpa would have said. We are proud to call it home and even more proud to be able to share it with our paddlers.
All too often we take for granted this amazing planet, especially with today's tech and Netflix binges. Floridians, take advantage of the wonderland you live in.
