Team Goko: Sophia

Goko is now a team of four! It is hard to believe when we started out as half that. My passion to share kayaking with the world was not enough, I needed Sophia's drive to get the business off the ground and into the water where it belongs!

Sophia is the real reason Goko Kayaks has helped so many people enjoy the water - families, individuals, seniors, veterans, first date couples, 1000th date couples, locals, professionals, students - the list goes on. She made sure Goko is a legitimate, licensed and legal business in Tampa Bay so our paddlers and I can have all the fun. We do not see her in the red truck much anymore, but if you do, know that she is a Goko hero.

Sophia is English and a rock climber so kayaking in America was not a natural move for her. We met in the Florida Keys in a vacation state of mind. I clung to her like the moon to the tide and eventually we turned vacation into real life. We married and rented a little house in her hometown in England, then onto Manchester, then Milwaukee, WI, then, bringing back some vacation vibes, we settled in Tampa Bay, FL to open Goko Kayaks and grow some roots.

As a licensed Occupational Therapist, Sophia is eager to help. Her degree sadly does not transfer to the United States (#immigrationreform) but has not let it get her down for long. Her search for a good and meaningful occupation continues. She is a great wife, dog mom and advocate for our family and future family. She set Goko's values of Sustainability, Customer Service and Diversity and continues to live by them. From me and Goko, thank you Sophia for all you have done and for being a magnificent human.
