What a couple years it's been! We began Goko Kayaks to share a sustainable way to adventure, celebrate diversity, and give an excellent customer service experience to each paddler. Now, two years later, we are exhilarated to be doing it!
As we all know, the world stopped last year. We stopped when the beaches closed here in Tampa Bay. We rode the Covid waves, took part time jobs and developed Goko as much as we could. Days before the pandemic stopped us in our tracks, we were set to launch our novel paddle, On the Water Meditation, OWM. Rather than giving in, we turned it into a virtual meditation that has been going strong since with attendees from around the globe. OWM meets in person now, but is still streamed on Goko Kayaks Facebook LIVE every week. Covid taught us to be malleable. When the beaches opened again, we put into place new cleaning regimes and staff masks and soon saw getting out in a kayak was finally bringing families and friends together again. The outdoor nature of the activity, the natural spacing kayaks create between paddlers, the fresh air, the sun and the sea were a welcome way to tear down the walls of quarantine.
Since then, Goko has grown 2 fold thanks to the Bay area locals and tourists alike. Two full-time staff outfitted with brand new boats and gear are excited to offer quality kayak rentals, our signature Eco-Tour, a stunning Sunset Tour, OWM, team-building and paddle instructions 6 days a week. A few additions include a YouTube channel, new t-shirts, and our partnership with Kids Saving Oceans, an awesome local business. Together, with Keep Pinellas Beautiful, we are thrilled to offer litter pick-up kits to families that tour with us!
Red tide presented us with another opportunity to be malleable. When it hit our launch spot, we took paddlers to clean water in Tampa Bay that was never affected. We found lots of new locations allowing Mother Nature time to heal. Thankfully, we are nearly business as usual, while red tide slowly clears out. Shell Key Sunset Tours are on hold with fish still washing up, yet, sunset seekers can check out our other spots! It has been encouraging to see a new sense of action to keep the Bay clean.
